Karis Neighbourhood Scheme

Karis Neighbour Scheme is a responsive charity based in and around Ladywood area of Birmingham, dedicated to offering practical support, friendship, and advocacy within the local community. As a member of the Birmingham Community Action Network (BCAN), Karis Neighbour Scheme (KNS) collaborates with other organisations to address unmet needs and promote community links.
The charity operates a variety of programmes aimed at improving the lives of residents. These include befriending projects that build friendships and community through visits and groups, as well as support projects that provide basic advocacy, money advice, and signposting. Karis Neighbour Scheme also offers a safe space for Listening and Guidance, where individuals can feel valued and explore important issues with a Chaplain for Wellbeing.
One of the charity’s key initiatives is the Ladywood Community Advice service, which provides a weekly drop-in and support from a Welfare Benefits Advisor. Additionally, Karis Neighbour Scheme supports and befriends older people by offering regular visits and assistance with social activities. They also run the Welcome group and ESOL classes to support local families and individuals with limited English.
With a team of 86 passionate volunteers and a focus on community engagement, Karis Neighbour Scheme effectively addresses various aspects of community life, ensuring comprehensive and impactful support for Birmingham residents.
