B:CAN SECURES OVER £1.5 MILLION TO BOOST ENERGY SUPPORT FOR BIRMINGHAM RESIDENTS
Birmingham Community Action Network (B:CAN) is delighted to announce that it has been awarded £1,522,200 in the tenth round of the Ofgem Energy Redress Scheme. This significant funding will enable B:CAN to expand its vital work supporting households with the cost-of-living crisis across Birmingham, as part of a wider £10 million initiative benefitting 25 charities and community groups throughout England, Scotland, and Wales.
The ten partners forming B:CAN Energy include:
- Age Concern Birmingham
- Ashiana Community Project
- Birchfield Community Association
- ecobirmingham
- MECC Trust
- The Muath Trust
- New Hope Global
- Nishkam Civic Association
- Small Heath Community Forum
- Witton Lodge Community Association (lead partner)
Project Impact
With this new funding, B:CAN will deliver an extended, impartial, neighbourhood-based energy advice and advocacy service, aiming to support over 9,000 unique households across Birmingham. The project is expected to:
- Save 12,000,000 kWh of energy annually
- Generate £4,000,000 in client savings
- Avoid 2,320 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year
Building on Previous Success
This award follows previous Energy Redress funding received by B:CAN in 2023, which was delivered by five partners in North Birmingham. The latest grant has enabled the network to double its delivery partners, extending support to even more residents and providing energy efficiency solutions that will help households save money in the long term.
