Ashiana Community Project

Ashiana Community Project (ACP) is a vital community anchor organisation based in Birmingham, dedicated to supporting and empowering Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, particularly South Asian, Turkish, and Middle Eastern women and girls. As a member of the Birmingham Community Anchor Network (BCAN), Ashiana collaborates with other organisations to address community needs and promote social cohesion.
Founded in the early 1990s, Ashiana has developed expertise in addressing specific forms of violence that disproportionately impact BAME women, including forced marriage, honour-based violence, and female genital mutilation. The organisation’s strength lies in its comprehensive approach to community support, offering a range of services including advice, advocacy, counselling, specialist refuge accommodation, and community-based activities.
Ashiana operates on feminist principles, acknowledging the importance of women-only spaces and services. Their work is based on a rights-based approach, recognizing violence against women and girls as a human rights issue. The organisation has received numerous awards for its innovative work, including the Rising Stars Award for Best Voluntary Sector Violence against Women Project.
As a community anchor, Ashiana plays a crucial role in providing culturally sensitive support, enabling women to make positive choices for themselves. Their commitment to diversity, inclusion, and empowerment continues to make a significant impact in the Birmingham community.
