Nishkam Civic Association

The Nishkam Civic Association (NCA) is a unique Sikh faith-inspired charity located in Birmingham, UK that serves as a community anchor and partner within the Birmingham Community Action Network (BCAN).
The NCA’s mission is to facilitate personal, community, civic and sustainable transformation, guided by the practice of selfless service, for the wellbeing of communities, the environment and all creation.
By 2025, NCA aims to become a local, national and international exemplar institution that catalyses values-led, social and economic transformation for the benefit of humanity and the environment.
As part of the BCAN consortium, the NCA works alongside partner organisations across Birmingham to deliver impactful community initiatives.
The NCA’s focus areas include addressing inequalities, promoting civic engagement, supporting personal and community development, and driving sustainable transformation.
Through its “Nishkam” approach of selfless service without expectations of reward, the NCA has established itself as a trusted community partner.
It operates various programs and services, such as an energy saving support service to alleviate fuel poverty, and collaborates with the government, voluntary sector and other faith groups to empower and regenerate local communities.
By being an active member of the BCAN, the NCA leverages its Sikh faith-inspired values and community-centric approach to contribute towards the network’s goal of driving positive change and improving the wellbeing of people in North Birmingham.
