Game of Stones: B:CAN Drives Diabetes Reversal Initiative
Hot on the heels of the launch of the NHS’ 10 Year Health Plan, Birmingham Community Action Network (B:CAN) is pleased to announce that it has secured NHS funding for the innovative Game of Stones project.
Building upon a successful national pilot, this initiative will help Birmingham residents with Type 2 Diabetes to reverse their diabetes through weight management and lifestyle changes. This includes a strong focus on personalised support, incentives, and tailored physical activity programmes that fit their cultural and community needs, making it easier to get active and achieve lasting health improvements.
Funded through the NHS Fairer Futures Fund, the initiative will be delivered by five trusted B:CAN Community Anchors – The Muath Trust, Nishkam Healthcare Trust, Northfield Community Partnership, Saheli Hub and Witton Lodge Community Association.
Afzal Hussain, B:CAN Chair said “We’re delighted that locally, the NHS is delivering on the ambitions of the 10 Year Health Plan by focusing on prevention and addressing deep-seated health inequalities through community-led action. B:CAN members are locally led, deeply rooted in their neighbourhoods and ideally placed to engage directly with local communities to bring about long-term change.”
B:CAN will be working with Birmingham City Council Public Health and local GP’s who will be referring patients into the programme, ensuring a holistic, clinically focused approach to the interventions.
Through the Fairer Futures Fund.
