NewStarts

NewStarts is a community-driven charity working across Bromsgrove, Worcestershire and South Birmingham to prevent homelessness, alleviate poverty and help people build brighter, more stable futures. For over 19 years, we have supported individuals and families in crisis by providing essential household items, compassionate guidance, and practical opportunities for change. At the heart of our work is free and affordable furniture provision, ensuring people moving into unfurnished properties can create safe, dignified homes. Each year we rescue around 140 tonnes of good-quality furniture and household items from landfill, giving them new life while reducing waste and supporting local families. Our team also offers IT repair and servicing, helping people stay connected and access education, employment and vital online services. NewStarts operates a busy food bank, a community supermarket, and a school uniform bank, ensuring households experiencing hardship have access to nutritious food and essential items without stigma. Our Community Hub in New Frankley provides a welcoming space where residents can access support, advice, activities and volunteering opportunities that strengthen wellbeing and community connection. We provide money, benefits and debt advice, helping people regain control of their finances and avoid long-term crisis. Our volunteering programme—spanning furniture logistics, retail, IT, food support and community engagement—empowers people aged 17 to over 70 to develop confidence, skills and employability. Above all, NewStarts is built on dignity, hope and practical action. We believe everyone deserves a safe home, financial stability and a supportive community—and we work every day to make that a reality.
