Connecting Birmingham’s Community Organisations: An Introduction to B:CAN
Birmingham Community Action Network (B:CAN) was delighted to welcome a diverse range of community-led organisations delivering excellent services across Birmingham to a special Introduction to B:CAN event.
Kindly hosted by B:CAN members at Nishkam Civic Association and organised by Witton Lodge Community Association, the event created a welcoming space for organisations to connect and find out more about the network.
The session gave potential new members the opportunity to meet B:CAN members directly, learn more about the benefits of joining the network and ask questions about how they could get involved.
Why B:CAN Matters
Events like this play an important role in strengthening Birmingham’s community sector. By creating opportunities for organisations to meet and learn from one another, we can encourage collaboration, share knowledge and build stronger partnerships across the city.
The session included an introduction to B:CAN from our Chair, Afzal Hussain, who explained why the network was created and the need it was established to address. He also shared more about B:CAN’s vision for bringing community-led organisations together to respond to local needs and create greater collective impact.
Working Collaboratively Across Birmingham
We also highlighted the services and support available across Birmingham through B:CAN’s collaborative working model.
By working together, community organisations can:
- Share knowledge, skills and resources.
- Develop stronger partnerships.
- Improve access to support and services for Birmingham residents
- Learn from one another’s experience.
- Strengthen the collective voice of Birmingham’s communities.
This collaborative approach recognises the vital role that grassroots organisations play in understanding and responding to the needs of local residents.
Looking Ahead
The event was a valuable opportunity to learn more about B:CAN, explore the benefits of becoming a member and discuss how organisations can work together to make a greater difference.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such an informative and engaging session. We would also like to thank Nishkam Civic Association for kindly hosting the event.
We look forward to continuing these conversations and hopefully welcoming new organisations to the B:CAN network soon.
