Community Power in Action: Watch the B:CAN Annual Conference Highlights
Experience the highlights of the B:CAN Annual Conference 2026 video and relive a landmark day for community action in Birmingham.
Held on 3 July 2026 at Edgbaston Stadium, the first Annual B:CAN Conference brought together community leaders, partners and residents under the theme “Empowering Communities: From Local Action to Lasting Impact.” The event marked a major milestone for the growing network, showcasing the power of grassroots action and collaborative change across the city.
On the day, we welcomed over 200 people to connect and enjoy rich panel discussions on community power, funding, social value and how Birmingham can more effectively influence local and regional decision-making. Leaders from national policy, local government, the NHS, funding bodies and social enterprise joined B:CAN members on stage to share their insights and discuss partnership working and investment in community infrastructure, with a clear focus on place-based delivery.
The programme featured keynote contributions from B:CAN Chair, Afzal Hussain DL, Derrick Anderson CBE, Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Emma Corrigan, England Director of the National Lottery Community Fund and the newly elected Leader of Birmingham City Council, Councillor Roger Harmer.
